Baird is a lifelong and third generation resident of Waterford, Connecticut where he graduated from Waterford High School in 2013. He attended Connecticut College from 2013 to 2018 where he majored in Government and is obtaining his Connecticut Secondary Education Certification. While a full-time student at Connecticut College, Baird worked as a private tutor and music instructor. He has also frequently performed as a popular local folk musician and plays several instruments including the Irish bouzouki, guitar, and Scottish smallpipes. Baird has served our community through his volunteer work at the Niantic Community Church, performances for charity fundraisers, trash clean-up events, and performances in local nursing homes. For hobbies, Baird is an avid outdoorsman and boater, blacksmith, and beekeeper.
Baird first ran for public office in 2015 and was successfully elected to Waterford's Representative Town Meeting in 2017 to represent the Second District. On the RTM, Baird was appointed to the Public Health, Recreation, and Environment Committee; Finance, Wage, and Personnel Committee; and Committee on Committees. Baird also serves on Waterford's Flood and Erosion Control Board, where he was elected to serve as Treasurer, and he became a Justice of the Peace for the Town of Waterford in 2017. Most recently, he was appointed to the town's Long Range Fiscal Planning Committee by the Representative Town Meeting.
In both his 2017 and 2018 campaigns for office, Baird stood alone against his opponents as the only candidate to release a comprehensive platform outlining his positions on the issues. You can read more about his proposed policies here. While on the RTM, he has quickly made strides towards enacting several new policies around town, such as proposing a common-sense municipal ban on the use of carcinogenic fracking waste on our roadways, and he has plans to introduce more legislative and administrative changes in the immediate future. His platform also focused on local economics, environmentalism, education, and government transparency.
